The Remarkable Journey of Mike Brier’s Timeless Terrarium

Mike Brier made the terrarium in 1971 for his in-laws, only to inherit the thriving green jar after their passing. Though he says his mother-in-law may have opened it to clean it a time or two, it was untouched after the late 70s.

Katie, who enjoys terrariums and horticulture, took a video of Mike’s green monstrosity and put it on Tiktok, where millions of people have found it either creepy, beautiful, or confusing. Mike and Katie opened the terrarium to add Springtail bugs, in an attempt to get the glass clear again. An aquarium glass cleaner has also been purchased. The plants are thriving and do not seem to have been hurt by the brief contact with the outside air. So far…. We will be sure to post any updates.
